Former Jack Calgrove moves heaven and earth to reunite with his children after the Civil War. When he returns home, Jack finds out that his wife is dead and that his children, who are believed to be orphans, are on their way west on a train that crosses enemy lines. Calgrove and another former soldier join an Indian shooting group and a freed slave as they flee to cut the orphanage before hope is lost.
